The Gather — A Portrait of the American West — Scott T. Baxter

The Gather — A Portrait of the American West — Scott T. Baxter

On view through August 27, 2023

Included in this exhibition are the best of several fine art photography projects by Scott T. Baxter over the past 22 years. The exhibition is just in time for the 10th anniversary of the Arizona state centennial — at which time Baxter was recognized as an Arizona Culturekeeper for his efforts to photographically preserve Arizona’s heritage.

Baxter, a local Scottsdale artist, captures the dichotomy between the elegance and untamed nature of the West. His subjects look through the camera lens with a penetrable look that is comfortable, direct, and honest. Baxter describes his work as “simple and straightforward, I just go out and shoot what feels right”. Baxter completed 100 Years 100 Ranchers, a ten-year official Legacy Project for the Arizona Centennial. Arizona Highways Editor-In-Chief, Robert Stieve described the projects as, “the best photographs ever made of ranchers in Arizona” with “a historical importance that doesn’t exist anywhere else”
